Art Education at Betsy Ross

Educators, philosophers, and artists have coined the phrase "the fourth R" (in addition to Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic) when discussing the importance of art education for young children. Art education develops many important skills: Problem solving, communication, and cooperation to name a few. The boys and girls will tell you it gives them a chance to express themselves, explore different media, be creative, and have fun--though probably not in those exact words!

The second graders look forward to art class with Mrs. Girardi on Monday afternoons. This past quarter the students have participated in a variety of activities, including creating the giant chalk drawings you see featured here.
