Snack Procedure and Guidelines

Please remember to send a snack to school with your second grader every day. (Children on the hot lunch program still need to bring a snack from home.) The students will eat snack during our morning break/recess. The food item needs to be healthy as well as something that can be eaten quickly. The following are some suggestions:

  • fresh fruit
  • crackers
  • cereal
  • yogurt
  • jello
  • raisins
  • 1/2 sandwich
  • juice box

Please note that candy, chips, or pop will not be allowed, as they have no nutritional value and can have a detrimental effect upon children's health and behavior.

Homework

Normally, homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. In addition to regularly assigned homework, your child may be responsible for finishing any incomplete papers accumulated during the course of the school day.

Please do the following to ensure your child gets the most from his/her homework experience...

  • Designate a place in your home as a "study area" and make certain it is away from distractions, well-lit, and supplied with the necessary tools: pencils, crayons, glue stick, scissor, ruler.
  • Please check all assignments and sign each paper before returning them to the take-home folder; young children do need guidance and direction from an adult to see that the work is complete and done correctly!
  • Remember that homework is intended to be an extension of a skill already presented in class. This is a chance for the student to practice and apply a math or language arts skill, so please encourage your child to do his or her own work. There is a big difference between helping a student with an assignment and doing it for him/her!
  • Don't hesitate to contact me at 708-366-7498 should you have any questions or concerns regarding a homework-related issue.

Make sure to buy Crayola crayons! Any other brand is a waste of your money.
